Class #1: Introduction & Principles of Punishment
In our first class, we will begin with a general overview of the course, and then turn to a classic case—Regina v. Dudley and Stephens—to begin exploring the general questions raised by the introductory reading, with a particular focus on how to craft arguments based on the principles of punishment. In this first class, we will elucidate the general principles that animate all arguments about the criminal law.
