Class Eighteen: Friday, April 10, 2015
Today's class will begin with Jacqueline's presentation of her draft briefing paper on The Use and Misuse of Riders. For the balance of the day's class, we will take up Social Security Disability. There are two readings: the first a briefing paper on the adjudication of social security benefits, with an emphasis on Due Process considerations. You should skim this paper quickly. The more substantial reading is a collection of items related to the Social Security Disability program. The materials are arranged chronologically and are designed to give you an overview of debate over the disablity program over the past decade. Two items in this collection are somewhat lengthy government reports; for these, you should reading the introductions/executive summaries carefully and skim the balance of the reports. The testimony at the back the readings discuss reform proposals, which we will take up in class.
