First Nations: Conquest and "Discovery"

As we study property, we must continually confront the reality that land rights in the United States grow out of dispossession.  This land was not res nulles (the unowned thing.) It was not uninhabited when European colonizers arrived. The ongoing legacy of indigenous genocide and dispossession is an ever-present part of this class.
