Founding Values
These two cases give the first articulation of two different founding values — the ultimate limit on how far the law can reach (Calder), and the ideal of free labor (Slaughterhouse). We will see Slaughterhouse later in the course. Its purpose here is to introduce the idea that will be developed later. -LL
