Here's another OPTIONAL article that discusses the 1871 Ku Klux Klan Act. We will see sections of the original Act later this semester when we look a police and justice, but I wanted you to know that the origins of some of the most powerful enforcement actions against police officers and other government officials who are accused of violating citizens' civil rights today can be found in this revolutionary law that was passed by Congress way back in the 1870s. Again, this is for background- you do not have to read it.
