Summary of Bartenwerfer v. Buckley
Kate and William Bartenwefer were successfully sued by Buckley over a real estate transaction. Kate is an "innocent debtor" who did not know of her husband's fraud underlying the transaction. The Supreme Court will decide whether innocent debtors can discharge the debt in bankruptcy proceedings. (William cannot discharge the debt -- kate is the sole plaintiff here.)
