Before class, attempt the following exercise (you may do so by yourself or in collaboration with a classmate):
1. Draft a chart/list of the elements of the murder statutes in Patterson and Mullaney.
2. Note any elements of an affirmative defense.
3. Attempt to find the punishment under each statutory scheme for murder and manslaughter in 1977.
